About a month ago, I had a dream that my daughter and I were taking a long plane trip together. The flight was immensely fun. We were having great conversations and being quite silly. When the plane landed I realized that we had flown from Vermont to Hawaii. In other words, just about as far from our home as you can get while still remaining in the country. With this distance in mind, it slowly dawned on me that I was bringing Phoebe to her first day of school. In Hawaii. And that I was going to have to leave her there and fly back to Vermont alone.
Today is my daughter's first day of kindergarten. Tomorrow she'll be in college.
